Belly fat reduction – Is it possible to lose belly fat?
By | July 29, 2008
If belly fat reduction is your goal and you want it done healthily, in other words, without surgery or dangerous pills, there are 2 things you need to concentrate on. One of these is exercise and I’m not talking about doing 1000’s of ab crunches. The other is your eating habits.
But, first . . .
Is it possible to just lose fat from your belly. The short answer is no and by this I mean that it’s not possible to spot target any fat loss. Generally, if you have fat around your stomach, you probably have extra fat on other parts of your body. So, your focus needs to move from reducing just your belly fat to reducing your overall levels of body fat.
How to achieve this body fat loss
One area you need to focus on is the exercise you’re doing and ensure that this is being effective in burning fat. One of the best forms of exercise for fat burning is whats called ‘interval training’. This is the type of training that you add into your normal exercise routine. It consists of a short burst of much higher intensity exercise than you do most of the time.
So, it could be a quick sprint during a run, a quick jog during a walk, or a sudden burst of ‘really going for it’ if you’re using a jump rope. The idea is to take your heart rate up quickly (and obviously safely) just for a small amount of time.
The second area that you need to focus on is the food that you’re eating. Any additional food that you consume above what your body needs to function properly, will be stored as fat. First you need to be sure that you’re not overeating and hence adding to your fat stores. The next step is to eat slightly less so that you start to burn up some of your stored fat.
